(Mexico City).- Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, Secretary of the Interior, stated that no new permits have been granted to operate casinos. At the morning press conference, he explained that he met with casino operators and permit holders, stressing that acts of corruption will not be permitted. They must comply with their tax obligations, and that work is being done to update the legal framework dating back to 1947.

The Ministry of the Interior in Mexico denies new permits for casinos

"First, I want to say that under this administration, absolutely no new permits have been issued. Under the previous administration, yes, there were some, but they were not because the secretaries or those in charge wanted to grant these permits; they were ordered by judges. However, how they were issued and what the actions were are under investigation. It is not a definitive matter because no new ones have been opened. Many times they request them and leave them there for speculation," noted Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez

No new licenses have been granted to casinos

The Ministry of the Interior explained that the casino permits granted by judge's order are being investigated. He noted that he held a meeting with casino operators and permit holders to emphasize that acts of corruption will not be permitted in the agency.

"One, I told you upfront that "I wouldn't allow any acts of corruption with my staff, just like that. I would shut down the casinos for those casino owners who committed acts of corruption with their staff, and I would act accordingly with public servants. Corruption would end, we have no vested interest in the casinos, nor would any new permits be allowed," he stated.

He noted that a commitment had been made to review the law on the matter "because it's one of their requests, given that the law dates back to 1947. We would review the law, and the government has a special interest in regularizing, let's say, the issue of injunctions and many other issues, because what we want is revenue for the government coffers."
